The Peterborough Players welcomes opera fans back with “Lohengrin,” a romantic opera written by Richard Wagner, for a “The Met: Live in HD” live simulcast on the big screen at the Peterborough Players, 55 Hadley Road, Saturday, March 18, at noon.
“Lohengrin” is the most-performed Wagner opera in Met history. The performance features star tenor Piotr Beczała, whose previous “Live in HD highlights” include Giordano’s Fedora (2022) and Verdi’s Rigoletto (2022).
Sung in German with English subtitles, Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts. The new production is by director François Girard, who set this production as a kind of sequel to his 2013 production of Wagner’s “Parsifal,” with set and costume design by Tim Yip. They are joined by lighting designer, David Finn, production designer Peter Flaherty and choreographer Serge Bennathan.
Patrons are invited to come early to the Players for Opera Bites from Sunflowers Catering. The Wednesday before the show is the deadline to preorder a meal. Tickets are $25 and are available on the Players’ website, peterboroughplayers.org, or by calling the box office at 603-924-7585. Box office hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
