Peterborough’s annual Lantern Festival returns this December with a theme of “All Creatures Great and Small.”
The festival will include an installation of glowing lanterns in Putnam Park from Dec. 2 to 4 and a parade featuring lanterns shaped like animals, houses, stars and more at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3. This year marks the first time the parade has been held since 2019.
In the weeks leading up to the event, the Children and the Arts Lantern Festival Committee is offering a lantern-making workshops in local elementary and middle schools, as well as public workshops in the Peterborough Town Library.
The parade on Dec. 3 will begin behind the M&T Bank at 35 Main St. in Peterborough, proceed down Grove Street through town and finish at Putnam Park. Participants should bring their own lanterns; poles and lights will be distributed from points set up in front of the bank beginning at 5:15 p.m. The parade steps off promptly at 6 p.m.
Peterborough Town Library will be offering public drop-in workshops Nov. 12 and 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. Pyramid lantern workshops Nov. 17 and 29 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for adults and children fourth grade and up require registration through peterboroughtownlibrary.org.
