As we get closer to Nov. 8, I’ve noticed that the hyperbole, accusations, exaggerations and promises coming from the various candidates and their supporters continues to grow.

As voters, it’s up to each of us to sort through all of this and determine which candidates will best represent the varied needs of all of their constituents and advance laws that benefit society as a whole. We need to elect candidates that can work together with members of the opposite party and be willing to compromise in service to the country at large.

History has shown us that our elected representatives achieve greatness when they work together in a bipartisan manner.  Some of our most respected political leaders worked tirelessly with members of the opposite party, such as Lyndon Johnson, Ronald Reagan, Tip O’Neill, Bob Dole, George Mitchell, John McCain, Ted Kennedy, Orrin Hatch and George McGovern, to advance legislation that benefited and improved the country that we’re all so fortunate to live in.

Carefully consider all of this as you prepare to cast your votes on Nov. 8.
