The Town of Lyndeborough has installed new medical devices in town buildings.
According to Town Administrator Russ Boland, the town invested more than $5,000 in six new automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in case of cardiac arrest-related emergencies. The town used a state bid to purchase the six new devices.
With the new additions, Lyndeborough has 12 total AEDs that are now accessible in various town buildings and departments, including one device in Citizens’ Hall, one in the library and three in the Highway Department building and trucks. Additionally, two more devices are placed in Lyndeborough’s police cruisers, three in various fire trucks and the final two in volunteer EMT vehicles.
Boland said the town invested in the technology as a precautionary measure.
“You pray you never need to use them, but it’s important to have in case of an emergency,” said Boland.
According to Boland, the town last ordered new batteries for the original six AEDs last January, and due to supply-chain issues, the town was forced to wait until October for the new batteries. With all 12 devices currently up and running, Boland said the new AEDs were a critical and necessary investment for the town.
“Time is critical during a cardiac arrest; every second counts,” said Boland. “[The new devices] are a big enhancement to our operation.”
