On Saturday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mason will be hosting a townwide yard sale to benefit the reconstruction of the historic Town Hall on Darling Hill Road.

Community members will be able to host a yard sale at home or on the Town Common. In case of bad weather, the rain date is Sunday, Oct. 23. Registration is $15, and cash or check can be made out to the Town of Mason. The registration deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 18.

According to Town Hall Renovation Committee Chair Jim Dore, the town raised approximately $13,790 from various fundraising efforts in 2021, including a yard sale on July 10 and Mason Old Home Day on Sept. 11. Mason also received a $5,000 grant from Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area and a $10,000 Conservation License Plate Grant from the New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources last year. The Freedom’s Way grant was used to fix the drainage and foundation issues at Town Hall, which was completed in August.

According to Town Hall Renovation Committee member Barbara DeVore, the estimated cost to renovate the building is a minimum of $300,000, and the project could take more than 10 years to complete. With the first phase complete, the next step is to repair the roof, which DeVore said could take three to four years to complete.

“Slowly but surely, we will have the project done,” said DeVore.

DeVore said the yard sale will bring the town one step closer toward restoring the historic building.

“This is a grand opportunity to drive the beautiful back roads, find good bargains, and help renovate the Town Hall,” said DeVore.
