Peterborough Town Library is hosting the first solo exhibition by local oil painter Mia Stendahl.

Opening on First Friday, Oct. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m., Stendahl’s exhibit, “Little Biographies,” will also be available to view during regular library hours. Stendahl will be offering an artist talk Saturday, Oct. 22, at 10 a.m. For information and to register for the artist talk, visit peterboroughtownlibrary.org.

Stendahl began the working on this series of portraits that could serve as art, biography and likeness in late 2021.

“I wanted to create a portrait that adds more information: Who are they? What do they do? Who is important to them? Etc.” she stated. To answer these questions, Stendahl took inspiration from illuminated manuscripts, Renaissance portraiture and her own background in theater arts.

Stendahl stated, “I am deeply grateful to the Peterborough Town Library for showing this emerging body of work. The work our librarians do is a vital part of the community, and I am proud to say that I got my first library card here.”

Stendahl has created a painting just for this exhibit, which will be unveiled at the opening.

“We can’t wait for the community to see it for the first time” stated Aimee LaRue, Community Art Gallery Committee member and public services librarian. “We hope they enjoy it and learning about the subjects as much as we did”.

“Little Biographies” will be on view in the library’s Community Arts Gallery until the end of November. All are welcome to view the artwork during regular library hours Monday through Saturday. The gallery is a regional public art space which provides exhibition opportunities for students, emerging artists and the community.

Peterborough Town Library is at 2 Concord Street in Peterborough. For more information on this program or any of the library’s services, visit peterboroughtownlibrary.org or call 603-924-8040.
