The Harris Center for Conservation Education is hosting its inaugural Hike-a-thon beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, and ending at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21.
Participants are invited to hike on any Harris Center trail. Hikers may participate to enjoy the season or to help raise funds for materials to build benches that will be placed along various Harris Center trails and grounds. People can register for the as individuals or as part of a team of at least three people. There are also several opportunities to participate as part of a Harris Center-led hike.
For those who wish to help raise funds while hiking, they can either ask sponsors to donate the dollar amount of their choice for every mile that they hike, or sponsors can make a one-time donation to sponsor a hiker or team. Prizes will be awarded to the top three individual hikers who raise the most money for the benches. Each will receive a Harris Center ball cap or nature almanac, and each member of the team that raises the most money will receive an almanac.
