The Main Street Bridge in Peterborough will be closed Sept. 19 to 21, but it is expected to be the final closure.

Assistant Town Administrator and Director of Public Works Seth MacLean said the closures are to remove the temporary pavement from the bridge deck, to prepare and install a waterproofing membrane and place permanent pavement.

“These operations will each take a day to complete,” he said, adding the closure will allow the contractor to avoid overnight lane closures and apply the membrane and pavement with fewer seams and cold joints, resulting in a more-durable finished result. “At this time, I do anticipate this being the last bridge closure.”

Aaron Lachance of Hoyle Tanner, engineering manager for the Main Street Bridge project, has previously said the expected completion date for the bridge and Route 202 is early October.
