The Millies, an all-women vocal/instrumental quartet, will present songs and harmonies from vintage prewar jazz to the blues-infused jazz of the 1950s at the Hancock Summer Concert series Thursday, Aug. 4, at 6 p.m. on the town common.

The band formed in the early 2000s as Milly’s Hot Skillet, singing the music of the Boswell Sisters, who were early pioneers of vocal jazz. From there, the group evolved into an old-time jazz rhythm quintet, with bass, guitar, piano, sax and percussion. Millies members are Liza Constable on guitar, Val Blachly on bass, Lee Ames on sax and Agnes Charlesworth on piano.

The show starts at 6 p.m. rain or shine. The band will play on the town common, weather permitting, or in the Meetinghouse if the forecast looks threatening. The concert will be in conjunction with the Hancock Farmers Market, which will run from 4 to 7 p.m., also rain or shine.
