As a member of the Peterborough Energy Committee, I want to thank David Hadaway for his May 10 letter (“Stations don’t help people without cellphones”), calling attention to the difficulty he experienced trying to charge his car at the EV chargers in Peterborough’s Riverwalk parking lot. We’re working with ChargeLab to fix these issues. We hope that everyone who has had trouble will try again. Keep us informed (peterboroughenergy@gmail.com) if you have any further problems.

Single-use drivers with a smartphone can charge pointing their camera at the QR code on the sticker located on the charging post. This takes you to a secure payment site for a one-time charge at the rate of $1.50 for one hour of charging (approximately 25 miles of driving range). You do not have to download any apps; you can leave your vehicle while it is charging, and the site does not keep your payment information.

Drivers with or without a smartphone can go to the ChargeLab website (chargelab.co), click “Products,” scroll down to “RFID card” then fill in the form to order an RFID card and key fob. After you’ve received the card, drive to a Peterborough charger, place your card over the large circular RFID icon (on the slanted shelf below the display) and then follow the instructions for choosing a charge head and plugging in. Please note that an RFID card is called a “charge card” on the displays.

With a smartphone, you can download the free ChargeLab app (iOS or Android). Fill in your contact and credit information. When you want to charge, select the Peterborough chargers in the app, then select one of the chargers in Peterborough (AX-59 is on the left; AX-60 is on the right), then follow the instructions.
