Artist Katie Semro of Sharon has been selected to appear in “Sound Scene,” a sonic and sensory art event taking place at the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C., June 4 and 5.

“Sound Scene” is an interactive audio art event featuring artists from around the world. The theme of the 2022 festival is “Trust,” and Semro’s piece, called “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor,” explores the impact of autoimmune disease on women in America. Through the layering and fragmentation of real-life stories from women across the country, “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor” examines the struggles these women face in their search for healing.

“I am delighted to have a piece at ‘Sound Scene’ in the Hirshhorn,” Semro stated. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to share the stories of women like myself who’ve faced great difficulties trying to understand and alleviate their illnesses. I hope that by bringing their desperation and overwhelm to light we can start to find a better way to help.”

Semro’s next project is “Til it’s Gone,” a feature-length audio documentary of all that has been lost, with voices from around the world. “Til it’s Gone” will be shared exclusively through listening events in February of 2023.
