I saw the oil truck pull into my driveway. After reading about the high price of heating oil, I thought it worth my while to ask what the price is today. He told me it was around $6 a gallon. Last spring, it was less than $3. He said that the companies were just charging whatever they can because they can.

This “I’ll charge more because I can” inflation really hurts. It is also incredibly insulting. Every day we hear about corporations making record profits. Democratic politicians are being mocked for calling it “greedflation,” but that sounds right to me. Tell me, why do Republicans say its OK for fossil fuel executives to brag about record profits when the prices they charge for gas and oil are up by 100%? Do we really like to be screwed like this? Don’t forget record profits.

The inflation we are experiencing now was primed by the influence of corporations as they control our state and federal legislators through uncontrolled campaign donations. These donations have allowed unethical politicians to win and hold political office. In return, they vote for bills that allow the donors to rip off the public. Fact is, very few of us have enough money to make a difference to a politician, but you know who does, Big Oil, Big Pharma, big banks, the list goes on.
