Mansfield Public Library’s book club will meet Thursday, April 28, at 7 p.m. at the library, 5 Main St., Temple.

The April selection is “World of Wonders: In Praise of Fireflies, Whale Sharks, and Other Astonishments” by Aimee Nezhukumatathil. Copies of the book can be picked up at the front desk. Library to host wetland workshop

Mansfield Public Library will host a freshwater wetland workshop for children 6 and up Saturday, May 14, at 11 a.m.

Children will learn about wetlands and then make their own wetland model. All materials will be supplied. Only 10 spots are available, and registration is required. Contact the library at mansfieldlibrarynh@comcast.net or stop by the front desk to register.

A follow-up hike to a local wetland will be held on June 4.

Library to Hold CLiF Rural Libraries Grant finale event

All Temple preschoolers are invited to attend a special story time with award-winning storyteller Simon Brooks followed by a book giveaway on Friday, May 20, at 11 a.m. at Temple Town Hall. The event will wrap up the Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLif) Rural Libraries grant program. Following the preschool event, Brooks will visit the students at Temple Elementary School.

Since 1991, British storyteller, humorist and raconteur Simon Brooks has been speaking to audiences from all over the world. Brooks became a full-time, professional storyteller in 2003, released his first CD in 2006 and his first collection of folk and fairy tales in 2018. Brooks has won awards and honors for his storytelling albums from Storytelling World and Parent’s Choice. He travels all over New England and to other parts of the United States and has told his tales in Europe. 

Mansfield Public Library was one of 12 libraries across Vermont and New Hampshire awarded the grant, aimed at public libraries in towns with a population of 5,000 or less. The grant program provided two storytelling presentations by CLiF’s Vermont and New Hampshire authors/illustrators and storytellers, new books for the public library, new books for the local elementary school library, a mini-grant for library programming and new books for each child to pick out for themselves.
