Entering its 30th year this September, Monadnock Academy of Movement Arts educates students in dance and the performing arts, all while helping them learn important leadership skills.
Students of all ages and backgrounds have the opportunity to develop their interests in dance and performance through specialized programs at the four dance studios in downtown Peterborough.
In recognition of the contributions made by Monadnock Academy of Movement Arts, artist Robert Hauser has donated three original art assemblages, relating to the history of dance, in the hopes that they may educate and encourage other generations in the art and joy of movement.
The art assemblages are currently on display at The Link, located on Grove Street in Peterborough. Viewing hours include the First Friday of every month, corresponding with the MAMA open mic nights.
Those works on exhibit include “Waiting For The Next Shoe To Drop!” which offers a historical overview on the formation of pointe shoes, worn by professional ballerinas.
“Flights Of Fancy!” offers tribute to composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, alluding to “Swan Lake” with the “little swans.” This piece also nods to the artistry and dance history of Edgar Degas, with the inclusion of his prima ballerina paintings.
“Celestial Harmony!” examines the relationship between orchestration and choreography through the “pas dedeux,” or “step of two,” making reference to the celestial motion of heavenly bodies.
The Monadnock Academy of Movement Arts thanks Hauser for the donation and invites all to view the artwork on display.
