April is National Poetry Month, and at 11 a.m. on Saturday April 9, Fred Giaimo will present, discuss and read selections from his book, “60 Sonnets for Men,” at The Toadstool Bookshop, 12 Depot St., Peterborough.
The book is a compilation of years of compositions using the rhyme schemes, structure and meter of three types of classical sonnets. The numbered poems are all related. The others are individual or dual. While the meaning of each sonnet is evident, a secondary intent is to elicit a response or memory unique to the reader.
Some sonnets are illustrated, while others are not, encouraging the reader to create his or her own mental illustrations. There have been minor liberties taken with meter, which is explained in the forward.
Fred Giaimo and his wife Deb live in Dublin. He is a retired general dentist and enjoys fly-fishing, landscaping, playing bass guitar, crossword puzzles, conversation and writing sonnets.
This event is free, and all are welcome. For information, call the bookstore at 603-924-3543.
