The Jaffrey-Rindge Rotary returned after COVID March 10 with an in-person breakfast meeting at the Franklin Pierce University campus center dining commons.
Susan Sarles, principal of Jaffrey Grade School, presented the Scholar of the Month award to fifth-grader Evelyn Desmaris. Accompanied by her parents April and Seth and brother Logan, she was described as deeply caring about her learning and the school community, modeling positive behavior and assisting others.
The special guest speaker was a friend of club member David Jeffries, who introduced the Rev. David Beckwith, retired Episcopalian bishop of Newark, N.J. Beckwith presented a new approach to achieving common ground called Braver Angels, designed to bring society closer to the ideals of Rotary.
The club also welcomed two new members, attorney Stephanie Thomson and professor RudraAryal. Club President Ben Wheeler presented pins and instruction to the new members, who were accompanied by club sponsors JeddBrummer and Gas Gascamp.
