Girl Scout cookies will be coming to the Monadnock Community Hospital this March, courtesy of the Grand Monadnock Rotary.
Employees of the hospital will each get a box, according to hospital Vice President of Philanthropy and Community Relations Laura Gingras, with the donation of $2,700 amounting to 540 boxes.
“It’s such a wonderful gesture,” Gingras said. “I know the rest of the world is starting to feel like things are getting back to normal, but in the hospital world, things are very far from normal still.”
Pegg Monahan, a member of the Grand Monadnock Rotary, said that the idea to recognize the hospital employees came after the Rotary donated to the Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains last year.
“They sent me a plug this year and they were describing their local heroes program,” Monahan said, referring to the organization’s Hometown Heroes program that collects donations in exchange for providing cookies to hospitals, shelters, food banks and retirement and medical facilities of all kinds.
“I got thinking about our local heroes, and I thought of the hospital,” Monahan said.
Another highlight, she said, was that the donation not only supports the hospital but the Girl Scouts organization.
“It goes directly to them and it trickles down to the local camps, and it supports their camps and all their other initiatives that they have,” Monahan said.
Gingras said the hospital employees are excited to receive the cookies, which will arrive March 7.
“We put out the word that the cookies will be coming,” she said. “It’s gestures like these and these acts of kindness that really mean so much to our staff and help keep morale up. Knowing that the community recognizes our employees’ work and supports them with things like this, it just goes so far.”
