Mariposa Museum will present a free online screening of “Truth Tellers, Exploring Robert Shetterly’s ‘Americans Who Tell the Truth’ Project” Thursday, Feb. 10, at 6:30 p.m.
For artist/activist Robert Shetterly, a great American is a citizen who confronts issues of social, environmental and economic fairness. He has painted 250 portraits of such Americans, past and present, with a quote from the individual inscribed into the background. These “Americans Who Tell the Truth” have been exhibited throughout the United States, including at the Mariposa last year.
“Truth Tellers” offers an exploration into the story of Shetterly’s art and activism and what it means historically to be a citizen of a democracy. After the screening, filmmaker Richard Kane will take part in a question-and-answer session.
Advance registration is required at watch.showandtell.film/watch/mariposa-museum. New Hampshire Humanities is sponsoring the event.
The Mariposa Museum, located at 26 Main St. in Peterborough, works to foster peace and understanding across cultural borders through exhibits, programs and educational initiatives.
