A few thoughts occurred to me after reading Penny Culliton’s letter on censorship of teachers (“Bills are bad for educators and students,” Jan. 25) and the article on the secessionist GOP legislators (“Bill to secede gets hearing,” Jan. 25). What irony! The very politicians who want to secede because of government control want to control every lesson a teacher teaches so they can sanitize history. Do they realize teachers will leave teaching, or New Hampshire, in droves? And retirees who depend on Social Security and Medicare that they have paid into all their working lives will have to leave, too.
New Hampshire will not be the “Live Free or Die” state; it will be the “State of Willful Ignorance.” Will they call their new country Gilead and install a dictator for life? Will they rule that only property-owning white males can vote? The GOP vision for New Hampshire and our country must be voted out.
