Peterborough Town Library, 2 Concord St. in Peterborough, is hosting a new exhibit featuring Nicole Kelly in the Community Art Gallery.

Starting Feb. 1, Kelly’s nature-inspired wall hangings will be available to view during regular library hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. In addition, she will be offering an artist talk via Zoom Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 4p m. For information and to register for the artist talk, visit peterboroughtownlibrary.org.

Before moving to the Monadnock Region, Kelly lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where the shore of Lake Superior and forests of the Keweenaw Peninsula were her muse.

“It’s easy to give yourself up to nature in places that feel untouched. There’s no stopping a blizzard or a wave. You just accept that you have no control and take solace in a power greater than you,” Kelly stated about the inspiration behind her work, which uses fibers, driftwood and wooden embellishments.

“A unique aspect of Nicole Kelly’s work is that it’s underlying construction is simple enough that even her children have shown interest in creating with her,” stated Public Services Librarian Aimee LaRue, “With that in mind, we are thrilled Nicole is also going to be offering kits for children to take home and create their own artwork inspired by the work on display.”

Kits will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis as supplies last.

The Community Art Committee plans to host an in-person reception for Kelly and her work, with a tentative date set for the First Friday event March 4. Visit the library website for the most up-to-date information about this and other programs.

The Peterborough Town Library Community Art Gallery is a regional public art space which provides exhibition opportunities for students, emerging artists and the community.
