t the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript, we take pride in telling stories of our community. We work hard to know what’s happening so we can keep you informed. But we have a small team covering 16 towns, so we only know what we know – and what you tell us about. Very often your news tips, press releases, letters and questions about why we missed an event or interesting story plant the seeds for future stories.
So help us build a better newspaper. Send us your news and story ideas.
We welcome submissions from schools, community organizations, churches, libraries and arts organizations about upcoming events. Make sure to include the standard “who, what, where, when and why” information, cost, registration and deadline information. Also include contact information both for anyone interested in learning more about the event and for us, in case we need to clear up any information or want to expand on the announcement for a possible story. It’s also important to share whether there are any COVID-related requirements such as limited attendance, vaccinations or masks.
Have great pictures from your event? Send them to us. Attach them in an email with a description of the event and captions for each of the photos. Regarding captions, it is very important to be clear which caption goes with each photo, and to identify each of the people in the photos.
Letters to the editor are where we give readers an opportunity to participate in debate, state their opinions or thank people who deserve praise. We do have some parameters, starting with a limit of 300 words for letters and 200 words for thank-you notes. We need to be able to verify letters, usually by phone, so include a phone number. All letters are subject to editing or condensing, and while disagreement, debate and criticism are fine, be respectful.
Additionally, if you’re writing in response to someone else’s letter, or actions someone has taken on any issue, remember that the letter is to the editor, not the person the letter is about, whether it’s a select board member whose decision you disagree with or someone who wrote a letter you feel is completely off-base.
Submissions, photos and letters from the community are informative, and they help us put together a better newspaper and website. To let us know what’s happening in your community, the email address news@ledgertranscript.com, and you can submit letters online.
