In response to Jeffrey Dickler’s letter of Dec. 16 (“Consider the source on energy talk”) I am concerned he missed my letter’s main point.

Nowhere did Robert Bryce attack the use of renewable energy. Nowhere did he try to terrorize his fellow countrymen. I wish Dickler had considered what Bryce, an energy expert, said. Rather, he replied with an ad hominem attack, against the person and not the spoken words, inferring he was bought and paid for by the fossil fuel industry.

As Bryce noted, imposing a myriad of harmful policies against an industry which is solely responsible for America’s reduction in greenhouse gas emissions – replacing coal and oil with gas – is mindless, and a strange reaction to this remarkable accomplishment unmatched by any other country. Never mind that it reliably provides today the energy we need to live.

Choosing the right course of action has to maximize the benefits and minimize the costs. I think Bryce was correct to say that our politicians today have strayed far from this path.
