Residents and businesses of Bennington can show their holiday spirit by decorating their doors or driveway ends. Trustees of the GEP Dodge Library have announced a contest for the best decorations. Entries will be accepted at the library or by mail through Dec. 13.
There are two categories and participants can enter only one.ย If a house or business is on the street or road, decorate theย door in any seasonal/holiday family-friendly motif. If a house or business is set back from the road, on a long driveway, decorate the mailbox, lamppostย orย end of the driveway. Judging will be held after darkย Dec.ย 15, so the display should be illuminated. Judges will evaluate the displays from the car and will not enter a driveway or step onto the lawn.
The competition involves only the door or what is at the end of the driveway. Decorations on the lawn, the roofย or anywhere else will not be taken into account. Any seasonal holiday themes can be used: Hanukkah,ย Rohatsu,ย Christmas, Kwanzaa, Yule orย Solstice. Prize ribbons will be awarded to the first-, second-ย and third-place winners ย Thursday, Dec. 16.
The goal of the contest is for the town to put its best foot forward during December, to spark creativityย and encourage donations to the GEP Dodge Library Building Fund. After Dec. 15 and for the rest of the month, residents of Bennington and surrounding towns will be able to drive through the community to view the displays from their cars.
Questions should be directed to Trustee Molly Flower Eppig or Librarian Leslie MacGregor.
