Lyndeborough’s Lafayette Artillery Company honored local veterans and provided a piece of living history with a cannon salute and Veterans Day ceremony at Center Hall Nov. 11.

The company has been continuously active since 1804, when the 22nd Regiment Artillery Company was established in Peterborough. In 1833, the company discovered they had more Lyndeborough and Wilton members than any other town and moved its headquarters to Lyndeborough.

In a motion of respect to those who serve and served, each firing pin was pulled by a veteran in attendance and followed by a loud boom and applause from friends and family.

“Per capita, New Hampshire provided more soldiers than any other state for the cause of supporting the Union,” said Capt. Walter Holland, who led the ceremony.

Holland said the group is looking for members.
