ConVal’s football team showed some spark once again Friday night against Kearsarge, but after jumping out to an early lead, the home Cougars found themselves on the wrong end of a 50-14 blowout.
Senior fullback Wyatt Hutchinson scored the first of his two rushing touchdowns just minutes into the game, after Kearsarge’s punt team botched a long snap and set ConVal up with a short field. But, the visitors answered right back, as track star JJ Davis found the edge for a 22-yard touchdown and followed it up with a 70-yard TD dash to put Kearsarge up for good.
Kearsarge had some smash to go along with the dash, as junior RB John Fraioli bowling-balled his way to four touchdown runs on the night, leaving would-be tacklers sprawled in his wake.
Damian Coleman gave ConVal a boost to open the second half with a 65-yard kickoff return that set Hutchinson up for another power-through-the-middle touchdown run to conclude the Cougars’ scoring.
Quarterback Jaxon Salamy left the game in the fourth quarter following a hand injury, allowing Bradley Brunelle to take over and complete a few passes.
Hutchinson captained the defense and led the team at tackling from the linebacker position.
ConVal (0-7) will hope to have Salamy back under center Friday at 7 p.m., when the Cougars host Winnisquam. ConVal has a good shot at getting into the win column in the final two weeks, as Winnisquam is 0-6 and the Cougars’ final opponent, Inter-Lakes, is 1-5 with their only win coming over Winnisquam.
