The Mascenic School District lifted its mask mandate for now as COVID-19 cases in the district fell below its threshold for masking.
With seven positive cases reported in the district as of Wednesday and six as of Thursday morning, masks are now recommended but not required, as the district’s matrix calls for mandatory masking if cases rise above 10 district-wide.
Superintendent Chris Martin made the announcement to district parents Wednesday night, informing families that while students would still have to mask on buses per federal regulations, those who wished to do so could unmask their children.
“Please continue to monitor for symptoms,” Martin stated in her announcement. “We are not out of the COVID-19 woods yet. We will return to mandatory masking if our numbers grow beyond the baseline of our matrix.”
