The Peterborough Main Street bridge project has been impacted by the wet summer weather, but is currently on track to be open to traffic before the end of the year.

Aaron Lachance, Engineering Project Manager, said that the rain over the summer delayed some work. โ€œIt has hampered the work,โ€ he said, with the โ€œunseasonably highโ€ levels of water in the river.

โ€œThis project has had pretty much everything,โ€ Lachance said.

Currently, he and the other project managers are working on a revised schedule to estimate the completion of the projectโ€™s various elements, but nothing has been finalized. However, Lachance said that the projectโ€™sย original goal of opening the bridge to vehicles in December is still in the cards.

โ€œThe goal is to have two-way traffic on the bridge by the end of the year,โ€ he said. โ€œWhatโ€™s most important for the community is that the bridge is open to traffic.โ€

The current work being done is form work for the bridge, Lachance said. โ€œItโ€™s pretty intricate and complicated,โ€ he said,ย due to the arc structure of the bridge.ย

Also in progress is work on the retaining wall and a structural concrete sidewalk, as well as the dam where it intersects with the retaining wall.ย
