Greenfield police are investigating two attempted cash box thefts from roadside stands in town Monday night.

Police received reports that a man tested the locked cash boxes at two roadside stands, one on Francestown Road and the other on South Francestown Road, just before 11 p.m., Police Chief Brian Giammarino said.

A video from the security camera on the South Francestown Road site circulated on Greenfieldโ€™s community Facebook page on Tuesday. It depicts a white male approaching the stand, testing the slot of the cash box secured to the wall, and hurrying away. โ€œYou can see him lifting up the lid to see,โ€ Giammarino said.

There were no eggs or produce at either of the stands at the time, he said. There also wasnโ€™t any cash in the boxes on Monday night, but attempted theft is still a crime, Giammarino said.

The police received several tips on Tuesday. They are still investigating the incident but havenโ€™t made any arrests, he said.
