The Dublin Historical Society celebrates its centennial this Saturday with a special exhibit at the town’s 1841 schoolhouse. The featured “My Dublin Story” exhibit boasts more than 50 illustrated storyboards, all depicting different Dublin residents’ memories.
Inside the schoolhouse, knowledgeable Historical Society members will be on hand to guide visitors through displays of artifacts from Dublin’s past, including tools, apparel, common household items, and school supplies, as well as prints and archives from some of Dublin’s prominent artist residents.
Initially scheduled for 2020, the pandemic provided more time for Historical Society members to collect material for “My Dublin Story,” and restore two special illustrations in the Historical Society’s collection, organizer Lucy Shonk said.
Fiddler Randy Miller will be on site playing Celtic fiddle music, similar to what early Dubliners enjoyed. Randy has played fiddle and piano at contra dances and Irish sessions nation-wide for more than 40 years. He has recorded six albums of traditional New England and Irish fiddle music.
Refreshments will be served, and ephemera and special Centennial memorabilia will be on sale (cash or checks only).
The event runs from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, rain date Aug. 8. Parking is available next door at Dublin Consolidated School, and patrons with mobility issues can be dropped off in the schoolhouse driveway.
