On Monday afternoon, New Hampshire Fish and Game Officers responded to Mount Monadnock for a hiker in medical distress.
At about 4:45 p.m., the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources Mountain Patrol Ranger notified Fish and Game that a hiker was experiencing a medical issue while hiking on the White Cross Trail at Monadnock State Park.
Timothy Grindheim, 22, of Richmond, Va., was hiking with friends when he became in need of help.
Conservation officers from Fish and Game, as well as Monadnock Park staff responded to the trail, and located Grindheim just below the summit. After rest and access to food and water, Grindheim was able to walk to the trailhead, with assistance, arriving at the mountainโs base at about 7:30 p.m.
Grindheim refused further medical treatment, and was not taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Fish and Game encourages hikers to purchase a Hike Safe card, proceeds of which support search and rescue activities. Cards are $25 per person or $35 per family and can be purchased at wildnh.com/safe. People who obtain the cards are not liable to repay rescue costs if they need to be rescued, unless they created the need for the emergency response through negligence.
