The ConVal School Board welcomed its newest board member on Monday night, when Greg Kriebel was officially sworn in to serve on the Board until the next District elections in March 2022.
Kriebel was selected by the remaining Peterborough representatives on the school board to fill a vacated space made available by the resignation of Robert Short Jr., after previously running for a slot on the School Board this March as a write-in.
Now, Kriebel plans to spend his time on the Board learning, because of what he said was the large amount of information the School Board is often inundated by and the complicated decisions members have to make.
“Basically, my plan is to listen,” he said. “I’ve got a lot of education to do for myself.”
As such, he said, he doesn’t have any specific plans for his temporary appointment to the Board. He wants to keep things simple and do the work as best he can.
With his full-time job as a pediatrician at Monadnock Community Hospital and two kids heading to college this fall, Kriebel is a bit wary of the time commitment required by the School Board.
“Time is not something I have a ton of at the moment,” he said. “But, I did throw my name in the hat during the election in the spring.” It was, he said, the least he could do to step in and fill the vacancy.
So for now, Kriebel is “considering this a trial run.” If it goes well, he said he would hope to seek election to the Board when his temporary tenure is up in March 2022.
“That would certainly be my goal, to run again when the term ends,” Kriebel said.
ConVal’s next School Board meeting is July 13.
