A motorcyclist was injured after a collision with a town mower on Monday afternoon.
The mowing tractor, driven by a 49-year-old Rindge man, who is a town employee, was attempting to make a left-hand turn from Route 119 into the Irving gas station at West of the Border on Monday, around 1:30 p.m., according to Police Chief Dan Anair.
The mower was being followed by a car, and behind the car, a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle, ridden by a 40-year-old man from Lowell, Massachusetts.
The motorcycle rider attempted to pass the car between the motorcycle and the mower, and collided with the mower, Anair said.
The motorcyclist was injured in the crash, sustaining a serious but not life-threatening injury to his leg. A medical helicopter was called in and a landing zone set up at the Cathedral of the Pines parking lot in Rindge. The motorcyclist was airlifted to UMass Memorial for treatment. Anair did not have an update on his condition as of Wednesday.
The motorcycle was damaged and towed from the scene. The mower received damage to the fuel cell which will need repairs, but was able to be driven from the scene.
