BOYS’ LACROSSE

The ConVal boys’ lacrosse team lost a pair of games last week.

After a nice win against Milford Tuesday, the Cougars dropped the road rematch Thursday, 6-4.

“It was a team loss,” said head coach Terrence McNamara. “At every position other than goalie we did not play our best.”

The Cougars won a late-game faceoff down just one goal but couldn’t tie it up.

Ronan McNamara scored twice; Ethan Weber added one and Eric McGrath scored his first varsity goal. Nick Squatitro played well in goal, coach McNamara said, and had some great chases on missed shots to gain possession for the Cougars.

ConVal lost again on Saturday to Goffstown, 9-2, but McNamara said it was the best lacrosse the Cougars had played thus far, especially given that they were missing a few key players.

“Everyone kept their composure, and despite the score it was a dogfight,” coach McNamara said.

Ronan McNamara scored the first goal for ConVal and Griffin Filaski put the second one in on a top-corner stinger on a well-executed man-up play.

ConVal’s team defense was much improved, McNamara said, holding Goffstown to under 10 goals for only the second time all season.

“Given their offensive weapons, that was a good achievement,” McNamara said.

ConVal (3-2) is at Pelham Tuesday.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

ConVal wins another over Keene

The Cougars beat the Blackbirds for the second time this season Wednesday, 15-4.

Ella Dishong was “methodical,” coach Derek Sorbello said, on her way to a game-high seven goals.

Julia Donovan and Madelynn Plourde had three goals apiece.

The defense was strong, Sorbello said, holding Keene to only 10 shots, six of which were saved by keeper Sarah Holdredge.

Eliza Harris and Emily Donovan helped out the defense by picking up loose balls, and Libby Ewing and Perrine Holmberg locked down the crease.

ConVal (2-2) was scheduled to host Pelham Monday after press time and then travel to Lebanon Wednesday.
