Jaffrey woman injured in crash

A Jaffrey woman was seriously injured after a single car crash on Sunday evening in Jaffrey.

At 6:02 p.m., Jaffrey police responded to Gilmore Pond Road near the intersection of Sandy Lane for a report of a single-car crash, according to police reports.

When police arrived, they found the operator, Amanda Lynn Lewis, 35, of Jaffrey, pinned in the driverโ€™s seat and unresponsive.

Lewis had to be extricated from the vehicle, and was taken by medical helicopter to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester with serious injuries.

Based on investigations, police believe Lewis was traveling north on Gilmore Pond Road and failed to negotiate the curve at Sandy Lane, crossing the southbound lane of travel and leaving the roadway, striking a tree.

Her passenger, Caleb Koivula, 32, of Bennington, had extracted himself from the vehicle and denied having any injuries, but was taken to Monadnock Community Hospital for evaluation.

Speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash. Police are still investigating. Lewisโ€™ vehicle was towed from the scene and is being held by police pending the completion of the investigation.
