A Greenfield man has been arrested in conjunction with a truck crash that caused heavy damage to the wall and gate of the Greenvale Cemetery, on Forest Road near Zephyr Lake in Greenfield.
Police were notified of the damage at 8:39 a.m. Sunday morning, Police Chief Brian Giammarino said, and parts of a vehicle left at the scene and spilled transmission fluid helped police to identify operator Kyle E. Dargie, 24, of Greenfield, who was arrested and charged with conduct after an accident, for leaving the scene and not reporting the crash after his blue 2011 GMC 2500 truck hit the wall and gate in the early hours of Sunday morning.
โI couldnโt believe the amount of damage,โ Giammarino said, and that the crash had damaged about 50 feet of the wall and ripped down one of the cemetery’s gates.ย โHe hit that thing so hard,โ he said, and was surprised that Dargie was able to drive the vehicle away afterward.ย
Giammarino said he couldnโt comment on whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
A representative from the town of Greenfield was unable to be reached about the damages to the cemetery.
