A Bennington woman was arrested in Keene after allegedly stealing a van and leading State Police on a chase down Route 9 on Thursday.

Angela Elliot, 33, of Bennington was arrested and charged with felonies theft by unauthorized taking and reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, as well as a misdemeanor count of disobeying an officer.

State police received a report that white 2019 Dodge Ram Promaster Van had been stolen from the Tire Warehouse on Route 9 in Chesterfield at 1:31 p.m., at which point the theft had just occurred and callers believed it was traveling east on Route 9 towards Keene, according to a press release from New Hampshire State Police Troop C. Troopers, as well as Chesterfield and Keene police, located the field around Chesterfield Hill.

The vehicle sped off when a trooper attempted to stop it, at which point officers initiated a pursuit. Elliot drove โ€œaggressively and recklessly,โ€ according to the release, driving into oncoming traffic, off the road, and at one point colliding with a mobile home being hauled as part of an oversized load on the highway.

Police eventually stopped the vehicle with tire-deflation devices they placed in two separate locations, stopping the vehicle at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 101 in Keene. There were no injuries, and Elliot was taken into custody without incident.
