Two local Lion Clubs are joining forces to collect warm clothing for people in need this winter, in a clothing drive going on now through Nov. 19

The Greenville Lioness and Souhegan Lion Clubs, which collectively serve Greenville, Mason, Temple and New Ipswich, are having a joint clothing drive and are collecting new or clean and gently used coats, hats, scarves, mittens, gloves, blankets, boots, socks and snow pants, which will be distributed to local families. Currently, the drive is asking only for outdoor cold weather gear.

Souhegan Lion Club member Rick Miller said the annual drive typically collects thousands of individual items.

โ€œI already have a big bag of coats,โ€ Miller said of the drive, which has been going on since Oct. 24. โ€œSome brand new. There are some really good items that are going to be available to people.โ€

On Nov. 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the collected items will be available at the Sacred Heart Church in Greenville for residents who need warm winter clothing to come in and browse and take what they need. There is no charge for the items or qualifications that must be met.

โ€œEverythingโ€™s free, come in and pick it up,โ€ Miller said.

Items that are not taken on Saturday after the conclusion of the drive are typically sold to locations that provide used clothing or to local donation boxes, according to Miller.

Clothing for the drive can be dropped off during regular business hours at the Greenville Post Office or Greenville Sacred Heart Church, the Mason Library, the New Ipswich Library, or the Temple Library.
