Hayden Ketola of Conant punched his ticket to the Division III individual golf championship with a seventh-place finish at the team competition round at Derryfield Country Club on Tuesday.
The senior Ketola methodically worked his way through the sloping Manchester course, dotting the foliage-lined fairways and greens with bright points of white as he shot a team-best +9 79. Ketola finished tied for 7th with Chris Grimbilas of Bishop Brady; 18 golfers made the cut (+18) for Sunday’s individual championship, set for Sunday at Concord Country Club.
Mitchell Cormier of Fall Mountain and Evan Rollins of Laconia both shot +1 71s to tie for first overall Tuesday.
ConVal senior Brady Proctor fulfilled his goal of playing in the NHIAA tournament after successfully lobbying the school district for a shot, despite ConVal’s decision to not participate in NHIAA competition this fall. Proctor, who agreed to quarantine from the school for two weeks following the tournament (he’ll miss his SATs, though he’ll be able to take them on a make-up date) shot a +35 105 as the only Cougar student-athlete who’ll see competition in earnest this season.
The Orioles finished 14th out of 19 teams with a +117. Bow won the team competition, shooting +42.
Also scoring for the Orioles were Jordan Ketola (+25), Grant Ketola (+31) and Draven Seppala (+52). Eighth-grader Francesca Ketola also competed, though her +59 109 was not counted toward the team score.
