PeterboroughElectric Earth, Harris Center partner for musical journey

Electric Earth Concerts and The Harris Center for Conservation Education present The Singing Stream, a musical and poetic journey through the Hiroshi Loop Trail in Peterborough. With Franz Schubertโ€™s tender song cycle Die Schรถne Mรผllerin (โ€œThe Lovely Maid of the Millโ€) as a guide, this outdoor diversion invites you to heighten your senses, open your heart, and see and hear the woods in a new way.

On Oct. 9, 10, and 11, mezzo-soprano Jazimina MacNeil and violinist Marji Gere will give short talks exploring the ways Franz Schubert and Wilhelm Mรผller wove the natural world into their music and poetry. Afterwards, participants will head out on their own for a 1.8-mile walk through the woods, with Schubertโ€™s music downloaded to their phone or tablet in advance.

Hailed as โ€œbrilliantโ€ by the Berliner Morgenpost and โ€œclearly a singer to watchโ€ by The New York Times, McNeil is a mezzo-soprano and creative catalyst rooted in the beautiful Monadnock region of New Hampshire.

Gere builds her work around collaborations with idealistic artists and thinkers from a variety of backgrounds. She plays the violin, teaches, writes, composes, sings, and makes visual art; she often looks for ways to combine these activities.

Registration is required. Music download directions and exact location information will be provided upon registration. Participants should read the Harris Centerโ€™s COVID-19 outing guidelines before registering to be sure this is the right program for them.

This event is being offered six times from Oct. 9-11. Visit The Harris Centerโ€™s Events page, where each dayโ€™s event has its own listing.

The Singing Stream will remain a part of the Hiroshi Trail in perpetuity, so those unable to come to the opening weekend, can visit at another time. Instructions for the walk will be made available on the Harris Centerโ€™s Trails page after Oct.ย 12.

The event is free, but as always, you can help Electric Earth and itsย musicians by making a donation at https://electricearthconcerts.org/support/
