TEMPLEAffordable housing survey available

A survey is the latest way for Temple residents to weigh in on the appropriate role of affordable housing in town. Last year, the town’s Planning Board opted to put a series of zoning changes on the ballot despite residents’ requests that they do more research. The changes never went to vote due to a procedural error.

“It has been well documented that our state has a very low inventory of affordable housing and rental units. We would like community involvement and have composed this survey so we can work towards possible zoning changes that would address this issue,” the Planning Board’s introduction to the survey reads. The survey introduces a series of zoning and community planning concepts for residents to vet, and explain their concept of “rural character” in Temple, as well as their residence and details on how they use their home and land.

Residents are asked to complete the survey before Oct. 30. Paper copies are also being mailed.

“Working together, the goal is to maintain what we all love about our community while possibly offering alternative types of housing for all ages and incomes,” the Board wrote.
