Governor Chris Sununu’s representatives responded Thursday to Wednesday’s New Hampshire Democratic Party press conference in Peterborough where speakers urged voters to “Veto Sununu” and flip the state house blue.
“Sununu says he is pro-choice, but he is a liar,” Executive Director of the New Hampshire Democratic Party Amy Kennedy said at Wednesday’s press conference, citing Sununu’s support of Supreme Court justice Brett Kavanaugh, his nomination of conservative judges for the state courts, casting the deciding vote to defund Planned Parenthood as an Executive Councilor, and spending COVID-19 relief funds for a crisis pregnancy center.
Sununu’s campaign responded by saying that Sununu would support Roe v. Wade if it ever came to it at the state level.
“These are desperate DC-style political stunts,” campaign spokesperson Ben Vihstadt said, “and no matter how much they lie, the fact remains that Chris Sununu supports a women’s right to choose and would oppose any attempt at the state level to overturn or repeal Roe v. Wade. End of story.”
The Republican Sununu is running for a third term as Governor of New Hampshire and recently garnered an endorsement from the National Rifle Association, which gave him an 100 percent rating.
Sununu’s Democratic opponent, Senator Dan Feltes, was recently endorsed by former President Barack Obama.
