On Sunday morning, hikers returning from Kidder Mountain in New Ipswich found their vehicles broken into.
New Ipswich Police Chief Tim Carpenter said Tuesday that police were contacted at around 10 a.m. about the break-ins.
“There were two vehicles, parked side-by-side, in the pull-off across from Windblown [Cross Country Ski Area],” Carpenter said. “They went for a hike, and in the span of a couple of hours when they were gone, their cars were broken into and some items were taken out.”
The items included personal identification information, Carpenter said.
Both vehicles were locked and the windows were broken to access the interior.
Carpenter said these thefts aren’t common either for the Kidder parking area, and New Ipswich in general.
“We haven’t had any issues like this in that area for a long time, and haven’t had any issues like this in New Ipswich in quite some time,” Carpenter said. “It’s unusual.”
Investigation is ongoing, and anyone who has any information on the thefts, or saw anyone in the area acting suspiciously on Sunday morning, is asked to contact the New Ipswich Police Department at 878-2771.
