To the editor:

I have been asked by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare to reply to a survey seeking my thoughts and experience about Medicare. Toward the end of the survey I am asked the question: Do you confirm the answers on this survey represent your views as a resident of Peterborough, New Hampshire? Yes or No?

I don’t really know yes or no, but this is a significant issue for many citizens in this town and region, and it’s an issue that has been taken away from the people and given over to the overly rich pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies that value their profits far more than the medical care of American citizens. Each time this issue arises in Congress, floods of money go in from these corporate interests to determine the outcome they want, regardless of what older Americans now need and care about, and which younger people should start thinking about for themselves when it comes their time to benefit from the funds they have given into during their working lives.

Instead of just me responding to this survey individually, I think many Peterborough citizens and others in this area should make their thoughts and experience known too. If we stay quiet on issues that affect us personally, this is why the same thing keeps happening. They have their way, and we suck wind. Is it a giveaway or a takeaway? Either way, they win. Whose country is this anyway?

I will send in my response to the National Committee, but lots of people should be in vigorous touch with Representative Kuster, Senator Shaheen, and Senator Hassan to give voice to your thoughts and experience of Medicare. Do you want it dead or alive?
