To the editor:

My husband and I drive a Chevy Bolt. We are 100 percent dependent on electricity. Let me tell you how that has changed our habits so you can see why a charging station is a smart decision for Peterborough.

We now plot our excursions based on the availability of charging stations. We have ceased visiting old favorites in favor of new finds with chargers. We have returned to a Boston restaurant repeatedly just because it is near our daughter and has a charger. We choose meal stops based on proximity to a charger. We have discovered wonderful restaurants, lodging, and shops only because they appeared in charging station apps. And we share these discoveries!

Since a level 2 charger only delivers about 25 miles/hour, we no longer grab a quick lunch. Instead, we pick a town with a centrally located charger where we can get a nice meal and visit the shops over the course of a couple of hours. In many cases, these chargers are currently free so someone is picking up our tab, which probably costs about $2.50. We are appreciative!

When we discover a town like Peterborough (though no place measures up to Our Town!) where we can get lunch, shop, visit a brewery, bowl a few lanes, take some great pictures along the river, attend a concert – all while our car is charging up for the drive home, we return often. We are thrilled to live here, but we are always seeking places to go where there are good restaurants and other things to do close to a charger.

I think installing a few chargers in Peterborough is a great way to attract visitors who want to spend a good chunk of their day spending their money in a wonderful town with lots to offer.
