The man who crashed a truck into a River Street home in Jaffrey after a high-speed chase with police a year ago was recently sentenced to serve a year in jail, but was released after one day to home confinement with electronic monitoring.
Ryan J. Parent, 30, of Moore Pike, Jaffrey, pleaded guilty to three felonies โ reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, aggravated DWI and driving after suspension โ during his plea and sentencing hearing in the Cheshire County Superior Court in Keene on Feb. 7, according to court documents.
In the negotiated plea, which was accepted by Judge David Ruoff, Parent was given 12 months in jail to commence Feb. 7, with 13 days pre-trial confinement credit. However, the plea agreement came with the possibility that he would only serve one day in jail since after serving 14 days of the 12 months, including his 13 day pre-trail confinement, Parent would be eligible to serve the remainder of that yearlong sentence in home confinement with an electronic monitor with an alcohol sensor.
According to the Cheshire County Department of Corrections on Monday, Parent was in fact released to electronic monitoring after one day, on Feb. 8.
In the plea, he was also given three years probation and was ordered to pay the victim named in his assault with a deadly weapon charge $6,049.88 in restitution for damages.
Parent led police on a high-speed chase on Feb. 21, 2019, from Rindge into Jaffrey โ that ended with him crashing a Chevrolet Silverado truck into 72 River St., according to an arrest affidavit filed in the court by state police.
A state police trooper reported in the arrest affidavit that Parent was driving a Chevrolet Silverado in excess of 100 miles per hour โ at one point up to 109 miles an hour. Parent was also illegally passing multiple vehicles, almost causing a head-on collision, was weaving and swerving on the road and eventually crashed into a house on Route 202/River Street in Jaffrey. Parent was injured in the crash, with a broken leg, and was hospitalized.
In court last year, Cheshire County Attorney Chris McLaughlin said Parent has a 2008 aggravated DWI conviction. โHe was underage at the time,โ he said.
More recently Parent had another DWI conviction in December, he said. Both previous DWIs were class A misdemeanors.
