To the editor:
I am writing from Peterborough about standing in line to receive my ballot to vote in the presidential primary. I have no idea who chose the division of the alphabet to determine where we waited, but this is how it was divided: A-C, D-J, K-P, Q-Z. No one will be surprised to learn that the A-C line was very short, while many others waited for a half-hour or more.
One of my fellow grumblers in K-P pointed out an easy way to divide the crowd into approximate quarters: count the pages of the registry list, divide by four, and look to see where in the alphabet the divisions fall. There may be more sophisticated methods that would be equally simple to apply. I hope we can look forward to quicker and more equitable access the next time we vote.
