Ever want to pick the brain of a local author? How about six?

On Tuesday, Feb. 25, the Dublin Public Library is hosting Dessert with Authors from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Some of the best known local authors will be in attendance to talk about anything that might be on your mind when it comes to writing, the creative process and what itโ€™s like to be a published author.

The husband and wife combination of Sy Montgomery and Howard Mansfield, along with Cynthia Copeland, Liz Thomas, Stacia Tolman and Tom Hyman will be at the library for the event.

It was the idea ofย interim library director Suzanneย Haldane, who is a retired childrenโ€™s book author and the wife of Hyman.

โ€œI just thought it would be a wonderful thing,โ€ Haldane said. โ€œThe authors like the idea because they donโ€™t have to prepare anything.โ€

Montgomery is used to large crowds through speaking engagements and book signings, but is looking forward to sharing the experience with her husband and Thomas, her longtime friend.

โ€œThis will be nice because itโ€™s a small group,โ€ Montgomery said. โ€œIt will feel different than the bigger audiences Iโ€™m used to.โ€

While Montgomery is up to talk about anything, itโ€™s the animals that are the focus of her work that brings about the most passion.

โ€œIf people want to know what itโ€™s like to sit in a pit with 18,000 snakes, have octopus suckers on your skin or a tarantula crawling on your shoulder, Iโ€™m happy to talk about that,โ€ she said.

And she said anytime you can bring together books and dessert โ€œthatโ€™s a winning combination.โ€

Haldane said people can just show up and mingle among the authors. Desserts are being made for the event.

โ€œWe try to get people to come in and we thought folks would like this,โ€ Haldane said.

The Dublin Public Library is located at 1114 Main St., Dublin.
