The New Ipswich Historical Society will host New England Quilts and the Stories They Tell, a presentation by Pamela Weeks, on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the New Ipswich Library, 6 Main St.

Quilting is not just an American art; nearly every world culture that has cold weather uses quilted textiles. Quilts tell stories important to these diverse cultures. Quilt history is not only enriched by these stories, myths, and misinformation, but also by heartwarming tales of service and tradition. Pamela Weeks weaves world history, women’s history, industrial history and interesting anecdotes into her presentation.

Weeks, the Binney Family Curator of the New England Quilt Museum, uses quilts to share stories of the Civil War, women’s history, and industrial history with her audiences. Author of the book “Civil War Quilts” as well as articles on quilt history, she lectures nationally on quilt-making and quilt history.

Attendees are invited to bring quilts for identification and/or story sharing. Prompted in part by the material culture at hand, the presenter may speak about fashion fads, the Colonial Revival, quilt making for Civil War soldiers, and other quilt-related miscellany. Following the Q & A, light refreshments will be served.

The snow date is Thursday, Feb. 27, at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
