Local collegiate softball and lacrosse players are in the early stages of their seasons – here’s a roundup of the local stars to watch this spring.

Softball

Softball players head south in March to play preseason games in a variety of locations, from Florida to South Carolina. 

■Madison Labrie of New Ipswich is a freshman at Franklin Pierce University, where she pitches for the Ravens softball team. FPU plays a preseason series against USciences at the Maplezone Sports Institute Sports Village in Aston, Pennsylvania this weekend. 

■Lexi Balam of Lyndeborough is a freshman at Smith College, where she pitches and plays outfield for the Pioneers softball team. Smith heads to Clermont, Florida for the Spring Games series March 15. 

■Grace Chadbourne of Jaffrey is a junior at Saint Joseph’s College, where she plays first base for the Monks softball team. Saint Joseph’s plays Eastern Nazarene in Clermont, Florida on March 1. 

■Raven Comtois of Milford is a freshman at Endicott College, where she catches and plays first base and outfield for the Gulls softball team. Endicott starts their preseason in Clermont, Florida March 15.

■Brenna Welch of Jaffrey is a freshman at Rivier University, where she plays infield for the Raiders softball team. Rivier plays against St. Elizabeth in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on March 1.

■Bethany Hector of Jaffrey is a junior at Lasell University, where she plays outfield for the Lasers softball team. Lasell also opens up in Clermont, Florida March 15. 

■Jordyn Babin of New Ipswich is a sophomore at Plymouth State University, where she plays second base for the Panthers softball team. PSU heads to Clermont, Florida March 6.

Lacrosse

ConVal’s girls’ lacrosse program yielded a bumper crop of college athletes in recent years.

■Lily Sheridan of Temple is a sophomore at Central Connecticut State University, where she plays attack for the Blue Devils women’s lacrosse team. Sheridan had an assist in CCSU’s second game of the season, a 10-9 loss to St. Bonaventure; the Devils play at Holy Cross Thursday.

■Katie Moorehead of Peterborough is a sophomore at Keene State College, where she plays midfield for the Owls women’s lacrosse team. She scooped 12 ground balls in 13 games in her freshman year.

■Moorehead’s former ConVal teammate Shea Ellis is her teammate again this spring. Ellis is a freshman at Keene State College and plays defense for the Owls women’s lacrosse team. KSC plays at Wheaton Feb. 29.

■Kalbie Grassett of Hancock is a sophomore at Lees-McRae College, where she plays midfield for the Bobcats women’s lacrosse team. Grassett had four goals and five ground balls in the Bobcats’ win over Southern Wesleyan Tuesday night.

■Sienna Sorbello of Peterborough is a freshman at Clark University, where she plays attack for the Cougars women’s lacrosse team. Clark starts their season vs. Bay Path on Saturday.

■Mackenzie Costello of Peterborough is a freshman at Saint Michael’s University, where she plays defense for the Knights women’s lacrosse team. Saint Mike’s hosts Pace to open their season March 4.
