RindgeTwo-car crash

Icy roads appear to have contributed to a two-car crash on Route 202 on Tuesday.

According to Rindge police officer Max Rocheleau, just before 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a Toyota Rav 4, driven by Melissa Thayer, 46, of Winchendon, was at end of  Commercial Drive, which intersects with Route 202 and the entrance to the WalMart.

On a green light, Thayer crossed Route 202 to the WalMart entrance. At the same time, a GMC Canyon pickup, driven by a juvenile from Rindge, was approaching the intersection from the south.

Seeing he had a red light, the driver attempted to stop the vehicle, but slid on ice into the intersection, colliding with Thayer’s vehicle. The airbags on the pickup deployed, but neither the driver nor his juvenile passenger were injured. Thayer reported minor injuries, but declined to be taken to the hospital after being checked on scene by medical personnel. The vehicles were towed from the scene.
